You should see my feet....
where to start, where to start... i got my class schedule the other day, i have classes on monday (art in london), nothing on tuesday, wednesday (theatre in london), thursday (intro to national cinemas & criminal/forensic psychology) & then friday nothing. not too bad i suppose. i tried to see if i could switch into the flats (central london) but jenni hasn't gotten back to me yet. it's a little more $ but i'd be in central london, not the outskirts where you live in a residential area and have to walk 3/4 a mile to get to anything. which leads me to my feet situation - ugh... i bought £30 of foot care items the other day. you'd think i was in the ballet. but the good thing is i have to be losing the weight. tim bought me my pedometer but i haven't set it up yet. i'd say probably walked 30 miles in the last 4 days - considering that central london is only a square mile, that's a lot of walking back and forth. & bonnie was right, i didn't need to bring 2 pairs of black boots and winter jackets. when will i ever start listening?
the weather here is absolutely beautiful - 8C (45F for you i think) - windows are open in my room, no need for a winter coat. from all the walking you do, you just need a spring type coat because you get way to hot. it's funny though, this is their winter so everyone is bundled up - long wool coats, hats, gloves... today i'm wearing a t-shirt and a zip up type sweatshirt and it's great. i hear that you have tons and tons of snow (except you stac, and erin - probably not so much). i'm sorry, but i have to :) over that. ha ha ha. although, your feet probably aren't bleeding with each step you take.
so, i thought about the whole bike thing, but the insane walking is getting easier. they drive so crazy here i wouldn't want to chance it. they have painted on the footpath (aka sidewalk) look left or look right. apparently too many foreigners bit the dust by looking the wrong way! and about the london speak - i'm divulging myself into the culture! i'm here for another 3.2 months, i might as well. the accent has started already. it's funny, when someone with a british accent starts talking to you, you repeat it as you talk back. sometimes embarrassing though because you sound like a retard. oh, another thing is they don't call the streets 'blocks'. i found that out by saying "how many blocks is it to the store?" i was met with a puzzled look and "ah, you are an american :) " so many subtle differences to get used to.
we took a boat cruise on the thames river yesterday. i have some pics of parliament and the tower. stunning architecture! i think we are going to stratford upon avon (spelled right?) on saturday. there is so much to do, you forget that you have to go to school. oh, another thing that's completely random is that you don't have to buy your books! you check them out at the library. weird but much better than american universities where we are spending $400 a semester on books.
i can't wait to post my pictures that i've taken so far but we are having some trouble getting our computers online in the makeshift flat we call home. i have so many to show everyone! our resident flat advisor said that you can get online with the free aol disk, but so far 10 people have tried and 10 people are still sitting next to me at the computer lab on campus. we can't get it to work at all. sometimes, i think it's a big joke. ha ha, tell dumb american students that they can get online, have them go and spend ££ on cables, wires & converters and in the end they'll realize they cant.
how about this: the metropolitan police came to talk to us yesterday about crime in the area. criminals actually put a card reading device in the atm machine slot and a pin hole camera to see your pin - so when you use one, you have to feel around all over it to see if there's anything different. my friend karen had her mobile stolen just yesterday from her coat pocket. american students =0 / london thieves = 1 i'll keep you posted on the score!
for me? i have everything in my black lg prada bag strapped around me to the front - everything is zipped up and i never leave the bag to my backside, always in front. hopefully i won't have any problems. also, they have a bunch of fake taxi's running around trying to pick up women for rides, evidently there is alot of rape and sexual assualt here. in every bathroom there is tons and tons of warnings for us ladies.
sorry for the jumping around from thought to random thought, just trying to remember everything to tell you guys!
i miss you and i will post more soon (hopefully from the comfort of my dumpy flat)
;) cheers!
