i love it here!

ok, i have totally changed my mind from my last post; i met some girls who are just like me (love to shop, yes!) and have seemed to fit in rather well now. honestly, a little worried about that yesterday!
here's a story for everyone: the title will be 'jamie gets lost for 1.5 hours by herself'. the story goes as follows - i didn't want to walk in a large embarrassing group anymore so i decide to go on my own. i had some checks to have cashed (which is a joke, they DON'T cash travelers checks anywhere.... NOR do they take american currency) anyway, as i wander around pretending to know what i am doing - it starts to get dark and i thought i was turning at the right road... it wasn't. infact, i think i ventured all over the rural side of london. so i start asking random people "hi, could you tell me where carleton road is?" - their reply "i've never heard of it, sorry." i almost wanted to break down into tears because by this time i didn't have anyone's mobile #'s and it was dark and it felt like my feet were bleeding. (the feet thing, ugh, i took pictures of what it looks like if you don't where good shoes) anyway, finally i came to my street sign - got into the house and literally fell onto the bed. which by the way is hard as a rock, i may have cracked a rib or two. everything shaped up after that, as i said b4, i met some great people! we went to an indian restaurant for dinner (our waiter's name was allen but he's from india... ??) anyway, then we went to a club called the sports cafe a.k.a. american sports bar. it was soo fun, alot of my flat mates were there so we all had a chance to bond. it's really weird here, they play alot of 'american' music. i guess i thought that we would hear more british style bands. it's still early though - we may not be in the right places for that yet.
oh, here's another story real quick: we got our tube pass from london met as soon as we got here. no one told us not to keep it by our mobiles or credit cards. mine is de-magnetized already. lovely aye? so i'm currently in the process of getting a new one, but in the meantime i have to show mine to the attendant and go through the story all over again. "yes, i am an american, no i don't have a different tube pass, no i'm not going to buy one..." very monotonous... oh & the tube? so much easier then driving. ugh, we got off in camden square to 100 trillion posh stores - i was like 'i'm in heaven, right? right?' can't wait to go SHOPPING. actually, we are going in a little bit (i need a hairdryer & adapters/converters for my straightener). everyone's hair here is crazy, oh my god i love it so much. anything goes - wear what ever you want. i really am in heaven. i think yesterday was just a really rough time - but it's getting better.
here's another random thing, the sirens? yeah, they don't sound any different that ours. i was waiting for the ones that go 'wooo oooooo wooooo ooooo' (like that?) but they sound like the sirens at home. also, you should see the boots on the car like for the unpaid parking tickets (they are triangle...) and one thing you can't get used to at all is the people driving on the opposite side of their cars. one guys was sleeping on what would be our drivers side - and it's so funny - you think to yourself 'um, he's sleeping and driving'.
ok, the stores are calling my name - i can hear them ' j a m i e . . . come see what we have to offer you...' catch everyone later!
cheers!

JAMIE JAMIE JAMIE!!! You can't be having too bad of a time based on the random, shall I say it, inebriated phone message that I got last night!!! I absolutely loved it, couldn't understand a word, but loved it none-the-less b/c it was coming from a totally foreign phone # (and, BTW...they're still called cell phones in the states, not mobiles! You're converting your speech already!) So even if you're living in a dive, it can't matter much b/c you won't be spending all that much "quality" time there! So I hope that the shopping went well, that you're new London-chic-look is all developed and that you have all the necessary hair accessories to look your magnificent self :-) Once I get this international phone dialing thing down I'll give you a sober call back! Ta Ta! P.S. I can't wait to get there to join in on all the fun! ~Erin
